20,000 Dialogues: Make Peace Happen

Tuesday, November 6th, 2007

Unity Productions Foundations (UPF): “Our vision is to be a catalyst for ending the “Clash of Civilizations.” To do so, UPF has developed a beautiful website around the concept of 20,000 Dialogues, “a nationwide campaign to bring people of different faiths together using films about Muslims to stimulate discussion and promote understanding.” Looks like a great resource for any Cooperation Circle.

The National Council of Churches has created an eco-justice program with the tagline “justice for God’s planet and God’s people.” The resources they provide for helping Christian congregations understand the spiritual and justice issues underlying today’s ecological crises will surely be of help to any religious group interested in promoting a green awareness.

September Idea of the Month

Thursday, September 7th, 2006

Dear friends,

September’s Idea of the Month can be found at www.uri.org In the past few months each IDEA has been devoted to the International Day of Peace. If you are still wondering how to honor the International Day of Peace, you might find some of these ideas helpful.

Many thanks to James Channan and the CCs in Pakistan and to Mussie Hailu and the CCs in Ethiopia for inspiration for the IDEA(s) offered for September.

Is your International Day of Peace activity included in the global count? It’s not to late to plan a gathering and register it. Please go to www.internationaldayofpeace.org.

With care,
Sally

Project Advocate, legal representation for Pakistani Children

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Dear URI Friends in North America,

Many of you will have already received this message from Beverley Britton; I apologize for double-posting it to you.

In the year+ that I’ve been the Regional Coordinator for North America, the most common comment I’ve heard from many CC members, particularly those in less active groups, is that they need something to rally around. They need to find some specific, relevant work that can help them translate the inspiration they feel in the call of the URI purpose into reality. Something that will make it worth taking time out of their busy personal and work lives to attend yet another meeting. Dialogue and personal interaction are wonderful — but many people are ready to move beyond this stage and need help figuring out how to do so.

You’ll soon receive a North American regional newsletter from me that highlights the activities of a few of our Cooperation Circles. The International Day of Peace (Sept 21) is the main shared activity that the URI Global Council is currently encouraging CCs to pursue. Beverley’s message is another example of the type of program that even a small, local CC might be able to help with. If you have other ideas and suggestions, please send them to me and I will periodically share them with this list (though only periodically as I do not want to overburden you with yet more e-mail).
