Unity-and-Diversity World Council Presents URI Global Council with Humanitarian Award During Peace Sunday

The Unity-and-Diversity World Council has long been holding intercultural and interreligious events in Los Angeles, California. Their biggest activity of the year is "Peace Sunday," which is held each December. Rev. Leland P. Stewart writes, "It is intentionally held during the Holy Day Season, a season for all faiths and all peoples to celebrate the most powerful season of the year. We are called to look for inspiration and the sense of fulfillment in our lives, as well as to find cooperative ways to meet the challenges that lie before us…"

With a theme of "Creating a World That Works for Everyone", this year’s Peace Sunday, held on Dec. 10, had more than a dozen co-sponsors, including the United Religions Initiative. In addition to the regular networking and speakers, the event included its first interfaith choir and first Humanitarian Awards Ceremony, to "honor representatives of organizations, as well as outstanding individuals, for their humanitarian work." Yoland Trevino, Chair of the URI Global Council, accepted on the Council’s behalf an award that read "to the United Religions Initiative, Global Council, In recognition of outstanding service to humanity and the planet in helping to create 'A World that works for everyone'."
