NAIN Connect 2006 - Vancouver

This year’s NAIN Connect will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, from June 23rd through 27th. The theme is “Passion for Peace, Commitment to Change” and the event is being held in conjunction with both the World Peace Forum and the World Urban Forum. Further details can be found in NAIN’s recent newsletter.

2005’s NAIN Connect was co-sponsored by the URI as a Regional Assembly. We did not have plans to host a Regional Assembly in 2006 and thus did not approach NAIN to co-sponsor. For your reference, we did approach NAIN’s Board about co-sponsoring the 2007 event in Richmond, Virginia. At their January meeting the Board decided to decline that proposal, primarily noting that the Richmond group was already well under way with their planning. It was suggested that URI might co-sponsor the 2008 event in San Francisco, but no decision has been made in that regard.

At minimum, the URI will be represented at the Vancouver event by Barbara Trites, a member of the North American Support Team and a member of NAIN’s Board, and by local members of the URI of Vancouver (including NAIN Board Member Barry Cooke) and the Clergy for Compassion and Harmony (based in nearby Surrey, BC). Of course NAIN’s Chair, Kay Lindahl, and Treasurer, Paul Chaffee, are also ardent URI supporters, among others. So in short we will be well represented at the organizational level.

The conference looks fantastic and I would really like to encourage participation of as many URI Cooperation Circles as possible.
