Register Today for the Interfaith Conference, URI-NAIN Connect 2005

There’s still time to register for the URI-NAIN Connect 2005 interfaith conference! The event will be held August 12-16 in Las Vegas, NV at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

This groundbreaking program is centered on the theme of Hospitality, Gratitude, and Sharing: Interfaith Action in the World. The days will be complete with spiritual immersion sessions and mixtures of sessions on Peacebuilding, Caring for Community, and Caring for Creation. Special “how to” workshops, plenary speakers from the grassroots of interfaith activism and wonderful hospitality will energize you to face head on the growing necessity of interfaith, intercultural dialogue and cooperation.

We read daily about the horrors and (and occasionally the triumphs) of the world outside ourselves, but become easily inured to all but our own struggles. Let us come together then and explore how to truly “think global, act local.” Won’t you join with us in Las Vegas?

More information can be found at www.uri-na.org or www.lasvegasinterfaith.org. Direct registration link: www.uri-na.org/register.html.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

In addition to plenary sessions and celebrations, our program is designed around three concurrent spaces. You may choose to stay in one space for the conference or switch as you are moved to do so. We encourage you to manage your own participation. There’s no one right way to be here!

  • Peacebuilding: a place where we begin to change the world, peace by peace. Includes workshop by Pace Bene.
  • Caring for Community: building communities of the heart by exploring ways to care and calls to action.
  • Caring for Creation: awakening a reverence for the Earth and all its systems by listening, energizing, connecting and action using appreciative inquiry.

HOW TO PROGRAMS

In addition there are a number of concurrent HOW TO sessions scheduled on Sunday morning and Monday afternoon, on topics that are designed to enhance our interfaith effectiveness. To date some of the topics we have confirmed are:

  • Interfaith Habitat Builds
  • Creating a Power Point Presentation for your interfaith group
  • Hosting interfaith radio and TV shows
  • Host an interfaith café
  • Interfaith Capacity Skills
  • How to Seek Funding from your Local Community Foundation
  • Use of Appreciative Inquiry for Interfaith.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON?

More details on the Funding HOW TO session: Bret Bicoy, President of the Nevada Community Foundation, has agreed to provide a "How To" Session on how to seek funding for your interfaith initiatives, by using your local Community Foundation.  There are over five hundred community foundations around the country that represent a potential source of funding for your interfaith initiatives. Bicoy will help you understand how a Community Foundation can bring visibility to your project and, potential funding opportunities. Bret will be speaking on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 to the Caring for Community track and on Sunday morning during one of the "How To" breakout sessions.

Abi’l-Khayr of the Southern Nevada Interfaith Council writes: “Greetings to everyone who will be attending and/or presenting at the NAIN/URI conference in Las Vegas. I will be providing a bookstore for this program, and I would like to invite you to sell any products you plan to bring to the conference through the bookstore. For members of local chapters who have published or produced a product (primarily books, audio or video — but I am open to other types of products as well) in the spirit of a non-profit, I am willing to sell your items through the bookstore and keep a 15% commission on the selling price. Products that are produced as regular commercial items would be made available for regular commercial terms, which is the bookstore keeping 40% of the selling price.

It will be most helpful if you would email me in advance (abilkhayr@dervish.net) with information regarding any products you wish to offer through the bookstore. Also, any questions you might have. I am assuming you will bring (or ship) your product to Las Vegas, and bring it to me in the bookstore at the beginning of the conference. You would pick up unsold copies at the end of the program. Any shipping expense would be your responsibility.

Ardey Turner, of the Circle of Healers CC (URI), will be offering Reiki treatments. She is a Reiki Master of 10 years. Turner says, “Reiki heals, harmonizes and balances the entire body system: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. This energy works with all healing modalities and systems and is used by a great number of spiritual practices.”
